Wisdom of the Return to Islam

There are many who come back to Islam after having immersed themselves in a life full of sin and major sins, such as adultery or drugs.

It is wrong to think bad of such people, since they included the likes of Malcom X. They have repented sincerely and benefited Islam much. The mercy of Allah Most High is vast, and so they should continuously strive to improve themselves, turn to Him and not constantly look at their past.

Say: O My servants who have transgressed against their own souls, despair not of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Truly, He is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful. (Surah az-Zumar 39:53)

They should seek to help (after getting knowledge) other people who face the same trials and spread good. And here lies the wisdom of having such people.

They show the truth of the life of Islam and the relevance of Islam to all of us, from all walks of life and time. It  strengthens the Iman of many Muslims and helps to bring more people to Islam, as is the case of Junaid Jamshed and Shams al-Baroudi (both famous celebrities who were Muslim by birth). It serves as an inspiration to people within their fields, to change and become drawn to Islam.

Furthermore these people who change, can help others better than others, since they know the specific trials and temptations facing the people immersed in that sin. Thus the Muslim skill base improves, and allows the Muslims to not only help Muslims leave such sins, but also help the non-Muslims to leave the sins and become drawn to Islam.

So as Muslims, we should not look down upon such people, but should realise the wisdom of Allah Most High, and benefit from such people. We should also help such Muslims, since many of them will still be struggling from their past life, and need support, just like we would help our family who is recovering from an illness.

At the same time, people should not seek to get involved in a life of sin (like adultery), since we do not know when we'll die, and if we'll have a chance to repent, or even leave the life of sin.

We thank Allah Most High for guidance, and we ask Him to make us die as Muslims who are guided to the straight path, and as people who help others, ameen.
